Fire danger is high in the Mountaintop Ranger District. Backcountry campfires are prohibited, but you can use portable stoves with a California Campfire Permit. Campfires are allowed in designated rings at developed campgrounds and picnic areas. Check current conditions and specific campground rules before your trip, as restrictions can change.

- Gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel with shutoff valve
- At least 5 feet from flammable materials
Exceptions
- Valid California Campfire Permit holders with compliant portable fuel devices
- Resort/organizational camp special use authorization holders
- Forest Service non-special use authorization holders for non-recreational activities
Campground campfiresAllowed
Campfires allowed in Forest Service-provided campfire rings or BBQs at developed campgrounds and picnic areas.
