Fire danger is high in the Mountaintop Ranger District. Campfires are prohibited in the backcountry, but allowed in developed campgrounds and picnic areas. Target shooting and welding/torch operations are restricted. Check specific regulations for roads, trails, and recreation sites affected by the Line Fire and Radford Fire closure areas before your visit.

Campfires prohibited in backcountry except with valid California Campfire Permit using portable gas/fuel stove with shutoff valve, 5+ feet from flammable materials.
Conditions
- Valid California Campfire Permit required
- Portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern only
- Gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel with shutoff valve
- At least 5 feet from flammable materials
Exceptions
- Valid California Campfire Permit holders with compliant portable fuel devices
- Resort/organizational camp special use authorization holders
- Forest Service non-special use authorization holders for non-recreational activities
Campground campfiresAllowed
Campfires allowed in Forest Service-provided campfire rings or BBQs at developed campgrounds and picnic areas.

Propane fuel and camp stovesRestricted
Portable gas/fuel stoves allowed with valid California Campfire Permit in backcountry; charcoal BBQs allowed at recreational residences with special use authorization.

- Prohibited: entering closure areas, operating vehicles on listed roads, being on listed trails

- FS Permit FS-7700-48 holders
- Federal, state, local officers and organized rescue/fire-fighting personnel on official duty
- Forest Service volunteers with valid Volunteer Service Agreement (OF301a or OF301b) on official duty
- Land owners/lessees accessing their property (Line Fire order only)
