Fire danger is high in the Mountaintop Ranger District. Campfires are prohibited in the backcountry but allowed in designated campgrounds and picnic areas with Forest Service-provided rings. Entry and travel on roads and trails within the Radford Fire Closure Area are restricted. Propane stoves are permitted for California Campfire Permit holders, and target shooting is allowed only in designated areas. Always check current conditions and specific regulations before your visit.

Exceptions

  • California Campfire Permit holders may use portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern at least 5 feet from flammable materials, burning only gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel with shut-off valve
  • Resort/organizational camp special use authorization holders
  • Recreational residence special use authorization holders may have charcoal BBQ
