Fire danger is very high in the Kern River Ranger District. Campfires are prohibited below 5,000 feet elevation, but may be allowed in designated campfire rings above that elevation. Always confirm specific rules for your campground or backcountry area before you go. Propane stoves and gas lanterns are allowed with a valid California Campfire Permit. Fireworks and explosives are always prohibited.
