Fire danger is high in the American River Ranger District. Backcountry campfires are prohibited forest-wide, but campfires are allowed in designated campgrounds with grills or fire rings. Propane and fuel stoves are permitted for permit holders, and firearm discharge is restricted to the Sierra Valley Shooting Range. Welding and torch use are prohibited. Always check current conditions and specific regulations before your trip.

Exceptions
- Persons with valid California Campfire Permit may use portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern in area at least 3 feet from flammable materials, burning only gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel with shut-off valve

Campfires allowed in designated campgrounds with charcoal grills or fire rings.
