Fire danger is high in the Heppner Ranger District. Campfires are prohibited in the backcountry but allowed in designated rings at developed recreation sites. Propane stoves are permitted with a three-foot clearance. Check current conditions and specific site regulations before your trip.

Campfires prohibited in backcountry; wood-burning stoves allowed with 5-ft chimney, spark screen, 3-ft vegetation clearance.
Conditions
- Wood-burning stove must have 5-foot minimum chimney with ¼ inch mesh spark arresting screen
- Remove all flammable vegetation within 3-foot radius including overhanging material
Exceptions
- Wood-burning stove with required chimney and spark screen in cleared area
Campground campfiresAllowed
Campfires allowed in designated campfire rings at developed recreation sites.
