Fire danger is low in Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Campfires are prohibited within a quarter mile of the Appalachian Trail between Beech Mountain Road and Massie Gap. Propane and fuel stoves are allowed but must be shutoff-capable and used in cleared areas at least three feet wide. Always check current conditions and specific ranger district regulations before your visit.

- Within ¼ mile of Appalachian Trail between Beech Mountain Road (AT Milepost 489.4) and Massie Gap (AT Milepost 501.8)

- Federal, State, or local officers in official duty
- Organized rescue or firefighting personnel

- Device must be solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG and have on/off capability
- Must be used in area barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three feet
- Must not be left unattended
- Must be fully extinguished after use
