Fire danger is moderate in the Hahns Peak-Bears Ears Ranger District. Campfires are prohibited in backcountry and dispersed areas but allowed in developed campgrounds with permanent fire pits. Explosives, welding, and grinding are restricted and require clearance and a fire extinguisher. A closure area is in effect for the Fishhook Fire, affecting roads north of Highway 40 and trails within the zone. Always check current conditions and specific area regulations before your trip.

Propane fuel and camp stovesRestricted

Propane and gas stoves allowed with safety requirements.

Conditions

  • Device must be solely fueled by liquid or gas and can be turned on and off
  • Must be used in area barren or cleared of all flammable materials within 3 feet of device
  • Fully enclosed metal stove with chimney at least 5 feet long and mesh screen spark arrestor (¼ inch or less opening) must be used in area barren or cleared of all flammable materials within 10 feet
  • Device solely fueled by liquid or gas must be in area barren or cleared of all flammable materials within 3 feet
  • Fully enclosed metal stove with chimney at least 5 feet long and ¼ inch mesh spark arrestor must be in area barren or cleared of all flammable materials within 10 feet
