Fire danger is very high in the Santa Barbara Ranger District. Backcountry campfires are prohibited, and wood or charcoal fires are not allowed in the front country Fire Use Restriction Area. Campfires are permitted at specific designated sites like Fremont, Paradise, and Figueroa Mountain, but always check current conditions and confirm specific campground rules before your trip. Propane stoves are allowed with a valid California Campfire Permit.

Backcountry campfires prohibited forest-wide except at designated campfire use sites. Front country wood/charcoal campfires prohibited in Fire Use Restriction Area.

Exceptions

  • Valid CA Campfire Permit holders may use portable lanterns or stoves with gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel
  • Federal/State/local officers and organized rescue/fire-fighting forces in official duty
