Fire danger is low in the Santa Lucia Ranger District. Wood and charcoal campfires are prohibited in the West Cuesta Fire Use Restriction Area and in the backcountry except at designated sites. Campfires are allowed at specific campgrounds, so check which ones are open for your trip. Portable stoves are permitted with a valid California Campfire Permit. Target shooting is restricted to authorized ranges and lawful hunting.

Exceptions

  • Persons with valid CA Campfire Permit may use portable lanterns or stoves with gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel
  • Persons with valid CA Campfire Permit may use portable propane/fuel stoves with shut-off valve, at least 3 feet from flammable materials

Campfires allowed at designated campfire use sites including American Canyon, Baja, Bates Canyon, Brookshire, Buck Spring, Cerro Alto, Davy Brown, Figueroa, Friis, Hi Mountain, Horseshoe Spring, La Panza, Miranda Pine, Navajo Flat, Nira, Paradise, and Wagon Flat.
