Fire danger is moderate around Mt. Shasta. Campfires are prohibited in the Mt. Shasta Wilderness and Panther Basin, though portable stoves are allowed there with a shut-off valve. Outside the wilderness, campfires are permitted at designated sites with a California Campfire Permit. Developed campgrounds may have different rules, so check specific locations before your trip. Always confirm current conditions and restrictions with the Ranger District.

Campfires prohibited in Mt. Shasta Wilderness. In Panther Basin, campfires prohibited except portable stoves. Outside wilderness, campfires allowed at designated fire safe sites with valid California Campfire Permit.

- Mt. Shasta Wilderness: Valid California Campfire Permit allows portable stoves only (gas, jellied petroleum, pressurized liquid fuel with shut-off valve)
- Panther Basin: Portable stoves only (gas, jellied petroleum, pressurized liquid fuel with shut-off valve)
- Outside wilderness/Panther Basin: Valid California Campfire Permit required for designated fire safe sites

- Mt. Shasta Wilderness: Persons with valid California Campfire Permit may use portable stoves only
- Panther Basin: Portable stoves allowed

Shasta Wilderness: Wilderness Permit required to enter; Summit Permit required above 10,000 ft; groups limited to 10 or fewer; camping 100+ feet from streams/lakes/trails; 7 consecutive night limit per 30 days; no dogs; must stay on trails; no spring-fed meadow entry except on designated trails
- Panther Basin: Dispersed camping prohibited; only Panther Meadows Campground allowed
- Panther Meadows: Groups limited to 10 or fewer; no water entry; no public nudity; dogs must be leashed (6 feet or less)
- Parking: Lower Ski Bowl Lot limited to 3 consecutive nights; South Gate Trailhead limited to 7 consecutive nights

- Mt. Shasta Wilderness: Persons with valid Wilderness Permit and Summit Permit (above 10,000 ft)
