Fire danger is moderate in the Mt. Shasta Ranger District. Backcountry campfires are prohibited in the Mt. Shasta Wilderness, but campfires are allowed in developed recreation sites. Portable stoves with pressurized liquid fuel require a valid California Campfire Permit. Access to the Mt. Shasta Wilderness is restricted and requires a permit. Always check current conditions and specific regulations before your trip.

Backcountry campfires prohibited in Mt. Shasta Wilderness; allowed elsewhere with conditions.
Conditions
- Mt. Shasta Wilderness: campfires prohibited without valid California Campfire Permit; portable stoves only with permit
- Outside wilderness: Valid California Campfire Permit required for designated fire safe sites
- Portable ring/pit/stove only: gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel with shut-off valve
- At least 5 feet from flammable materials
Exceptions
- Mt. Shasta Wilderness: portable stoves with valid California Campfire Permit (gas, jellied petroleum, pressurized liquid fuel with shut-off valve)
- Outside wilderness: within 10 feet of Shasta Lake, Trinity Lake, Iron Canyon Reservoir and at least 50 feet from vegetation with valid California Campfire Permit
- Outside wilderness: within Castle Crags Wilderness with valid California Campfire Permit

- Camping limited to 7 consecutive nights within 30-day period
- Remain on existing trails; no off-trail travel in spring-fed meadows
- No dogs permitted
- Pack stock limited to 10 per group; no overnight pack stock

- Valid Wilderness Permit allows entry and travel below 10,000 feet
- Valid Summit Permit and Wilderness Permit allow access above 10,000 feet
- Federal/state/local officers and rescue/firefighting personnel in official duty
