Fire danger is high in the Wallowa Valley Ranger District. Backcountry campfires are restricted, and you may only use approved stoves. Campfires in developed campgrounds may be allowed in designated rings, but check specific site rules. Fireworks and explosives are prohibited. Always confirm current restrictions before your trip.

Backcountry campfires prohibited except camp stoves with 3-ft vegetation clearance.

Conditions

  • Camp stoves fueled solely by liquid petroleum or liquefied petroleum gas
  • Flammable vegetation cleared minimum 3-feet away from open flame on all sides
  • Propane/liquid fuel fires require 3-foot vegetation clearance
  • Wood stoves require 5-foot chimney with ¼-inch mesh spark screen and 3-foot vegetation clearance

Exceptions

  • Camp stoves fueled by LP/LPG with required clearance
Campground campfiresRestricted

Campground campfires prohibited except camp stoves with 3-ft vegetation clearance.

Conditions

  • Camp stoves fueled solely by liquid petroleum or liquefied petroleum gas
  • Flammable vegetation cleared minimum 3-feet away from open flame on all sides

Exceptions

  • Camp stoves fueled by LP/LPG with required clearance
  • Within a designated campfire ring at a developed recreation site listed in Exhibit A

Propane and LP gas stoves allowed with 3-foot vegetation clearance.

  • Fueled solely by liquid petroleum or liquefied petroleum gas
  • Flammable vegetation cleared minimum 3-feet away from open flame on all sides
  • Wood burning stove equipped with chimney at least 5-feet in length and ¼-inch mesh spark arresting screen
  • All flammable vegetation within 3-foot radius cleared, including overhanging material

Explosives and fireworks prohibited.

  • Federal, State, or local officers in performance of official duty
  • Persons with Forest Service Permit FS-7700-48
