Fire danger is extreme in the Salt Lake Ranger District. Campfires are prohibited in backcountry and dispersed areas. Campfires are allowed only in permanent fire pits at developed campgrounds and picnic areas. Always check the specific location and current weather conditions before your trip.

Campfires prohibited in backcountry and dispersed areas within Stansbury and Vernon Management Areas.
Exceptions
- Persons with Forest Service Permit FS-7700-48 exempting them from this order
- Federal, State, or Local Officers and organized rescue/firefighting services in performance of official duty
Campground campfiresRestricted
Campfires allowed only in permanent metal or concrete fire pits/grates installed at developed recreation sites (campgrounds and picnic areas).
Conditions
- Must use permanent metal or concrete fire pit or grate installed and maintained by Forest Service at developed recreation sites
Propane fuel and camp stovesRestricted
Propane and gas stoves allowed with strict clearance requirements; fully enclosed metal stoves with spark arrestors also permitted.
Conditions
- Device solely fueled by liquid or gas that can be turned on and off
- Used in area barren or cleared of all flammable materials within 10 feet of device
- Fully enclosed metal stove with chimney at least 5 feet in length and mesh screen spark arrestor with ¼ inch or less opening
Welding and grindingRestricted
Welding, grinding, and torch work allowed with cleared area and fire extinguisher requirements.
Conditions
- Cleared area of at least 10 feet in diameter
- Chemical pressurized fire extinguisher with minimum 8 oz. capacity and Class 2A rating kept with operator
ExplosivesProhibited
Explosives, blasting, exploding targets, fireworks, and tracer/incendiary ammunition always prohibited on National Forest lands.
