Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Fire Danger & Restrictions
The Carson Ranger District has the Hawk fire at 15,085 acres, discovered August 22, 2026, and 98% contained, while the Santa Rosa Ranger District has the McConnell fire at 33,243 acres, discovered August 25, 2026, and 83% contained, and the Calico fire at 18,319 acres, discovered August 26, 2026, and 98% contained. Fire danger is high across the forest, and closures are in effect for the McConnell Fire area and parts of the Carson Ranger District. Campfires are generally allowed in developed campgrounds but prohibited in backcountry areas, and portable stoves are permitted.
